Book Review - EMP: Electromagnetic Pulse

I read the book "EMP: Electromagnetic Pulse. Protect Your Family and Survive Long After the EMP (Prepping, Survival, Homesteading, Preparedness, EMP, Electromagnetic pulse)" by Lauren Kelley in a matter of minutes.

That being said it's probably obvious that it doesn't contain a lot of information. I will say there were a few good points to remember when preparing for an EMP, but unfortunately the rest was just pretty much common sense stuff.

Almost half the book, starting at the beginning talks about what constitutes an EMP (and quite frankly, it's presented like someone who just read a few Cliff notes about it and pieced it all together) and potential causes.

However, most of what is written comes across as guesswork. Remarks in the text stating things like "we don't know" or "every place is different" shows little time taken to research the subject matter.

All in all I would say that if you literally have zero idea of what an EMP is and zero clues on rudimentary survival needs, then this is worth the time to read (since it is free with Kindle Unlimited), but for anyone looking for advanced information I would look elsewhere.

Looking for book recommendations

Hoping to open some discussion about required, good and terrible books related to the subjects of EMP survival.

The search is on-going and I have read (or I am currently reading) a few books on the topic. I have also read pretty decent books on mini-farming and raising chickens (I actually have had chickens now for 5 years).

Below are some examples of what I have read. Leave comment if there are others that you would recommend or that I should steer clear of!

A Beginner's Guide to Raised Bed Gardening by Martha Green

Back to Basics: A Complete Guide to Traditional Skills by Abigail R. Gehring

The Homesteading Guidebook - A Beginners Guide to Self Sufficient Living by Dean Deschain

Backyard Chickens Book Package: Beginner's Guide to Raising Backyard Chickens & The Backyard Chickens Breed Guide by Rashelle Johnson

The quest begins...

So, if you read the about page it pretty much sums up what this blog is about and a brief bit about myself. This first post is mostly just to add a few more details about what my goal for this blog is and who I am and what I hope to accomplish through writing in this blog.

So like I said, I grew up in the city and was never taught how to do the same things that rural folks taught their kids such as hunting, fishing, farming, and outdoor skills. Had electricity disappeared in my young adult days, I would be dead by now.

It's that simple.

Thinking about that, I have decided I need to start learning those skills because, quite frankly, with the state of the world these days and the fact that America has become a shadow of the superpower it used to be, the chances of an EMP burst above North America is probably more likely than not.

So this blog will hopefully not only help me shore up the skills necessary to survive an EMP attack by researching, documenting, sharing and practicing what I find online, while there is still electricity to do so, but also to get input from others and share knowledge.

Reading is where things start for me. I have started reading and have read a lot of books relating to off grid living, sustainability, and more recently books on EMP survival in particular. I plan on sharing what I garner from my reads and hopefully discussions on my posts will happen so that we can all benefit.
